I have wondered greatly about this small point, and am surprised that no one has thought of it. First of all, I must say: All Current Varsity Members Go Away.I don't want anyone spoiling the pleasure of becoming a Varsity (like somebody saying, "It's HORRIBLE! We have to organize the Novice Tournament! ) Ok, if you REALLY want to... So, back to the Novices, on June 19, 2004, 8:00:00.00 PM (who has an atomic watch?) we will all become what is known to the outside world as Varsity, but known to the few who truly understand it as a powerful position to beat up next year's Novices. So, I think it is about time we all think up ways to beat up the Novices next year! My ideas: Make them find 24 PAGES of evidence against their own cases, not just 24 PIECES. Make them find lots of AFF for us ;D Make them bring in candy every week. For every debate problem, blame a Novice. Make them jump through hoops to get the CHARGE Cd. Act like they are missing so much that they will spend 15 minutes each meeting wishing for the day... Any more?

David, what you are truely forgeting is what YOU have to do to EARN the title VARSITY. You see... it's not like you're just going to "graduate". You really don't have any clue what us now varsity members were really doing while you novices were learning what inherency and solvency was, how to properly run a D.A., what the heck a counterplan is and what the true nature of debate really is... and so on and so forth. Meanwhile... Benjamin actually made us novices earn the title of "varsity"... you see this way we had a better appreciation of what the varsitys actually have to do. We had to past the tests.... we were forced to face the dreaded TRIALS. What do these trials intale that you must pass before you can become a varsity?? You might want to start think about some of the following: - First you must swear and pledge your life to Chicago CHARGE and to spend the greater part of your life researching and thinking about debate.
- Interrogation by Benjamin for hours on end designed to supposedly "sharpen your cross-ex skills"
- Made to run through obstacle courses to… as you are told "to get your sorry shapeless self in shape for doing the 'iron man' at tournaments"
- Made to give your entire 1AC in 4 min... but you must still pronounce each word clearly and distinkly this is to help you "think and speak clearly yet quickly"... of course you must keep attempting this until you are able to do it perfectly. This ussually takes several hours to perfect.
- Starvation… again, supposed to prep you for "grueling tournaments"
- Made to research on the computer for hours on end with little to no sleep…as you are told it will "sharpen your research skills"
This is of course just the tip of the ice burg... really just a small taste of the note quite as horrible and terrible things you will made to do as varsity. (hey, I didn't want to scare you!) You see... with great power comes great responsability. You will not be allowed rule and torture the novices until you have passed the great tests. You might want to prep your mind for having to sit through hours of meetings on the nature of the new resolution... and thinking about how nice last years resolution was. His Servant, Jason

His Servant, Jason Your doing that just because you know you have just a few days left to torture us Novices, right? Right? RIGHT? I sure hope so! If not, answer this: Has anyone in CHARGE ever flunked the test and gone back to Novicehood?

If not, answer this: Has anyone in CHARGE ever flunked the test and gone back to Novicehood? Has anyone ever flunked the trials?? Oh yes... many have. Why do you think the varsity team is so small?? Many novices would-be varsity just simply cannot endure the tests they must pass... this is the way we have always seperated the wheat from the chaff if you will. What happens to those who flunk or give up?? I'll leave that to your imagination... but you don't see any novices that have been around for two years, have you?? His Servant, Jason

I wouldn't be suprised if there was some sort of big test...Kristi has never been the same since she started debate Besides...why would there be such a thing as an "Intermediate" classification if everyone immediately became varsity?

Does anyone know this year's test or setup that will determine the winners and the intermediates?
