hey....we have all these threads on rock....i say it's time to start talkin' bout CLASSICAL music, guys! Let's hear it for Rachmaninov! (uhhh.....i forgot how you spell it) Who thinks Debussy was addicted to flats? Does anyone agree w/ me that Mozart gets a little repetitive sometimes? Who thinks Shostacovich is the kewlest name ever? How about Chopin.....my hero! Who do you think was the greatest pianist ever? (Liszt! Liszt!) OH! You know the 3rd mvmt of the Moonlight Sonata? Who thinks that those octave trills should be made ILLEGAL! They're brutal! Anyways, let's get talking on this grrrrrrrreat subject! *ToRi

Oooh... Shostakovich... he's one of my favorite composers...
Mozart gets repetitive very quickly. His music is okay, but I would prefer playing or listening to that of the Romatic Era.

But he also gets kind of boring, especially compared to the spirit of Romantic music. :: shrugs :: Now, Beethoven... he was cool...

Mozart isn't boring!!!!!!!!!! He's awesome!!!!!! every note fits together perfectly....it just all makes sense. If even one note had been different, it would have sounded unballenced. As it is, it's magnificent!

russian composers are too kewl. rachmanninov was the awesomest dude ever! i really want to learn his prelude in c#minor even though it's kind of over-played. like the moonlight sonata--if i have to hear the 1st mvmt again i'll scream. beethoven himself said he couldn't understand why people make such a fuss about it..."I've written much better things." Personally i think the 3rd mvmt is MUCH awesomer. but it's the kind of think that makes you want to break things when you practice it. My piano teacher got the brilliant idea of having me play it in a sonata competition....i'm like, are you kiDDing? anyone got any practice tips for me?

Back to Chopin for a moment, I LOVED his Fantasie Impromptu - I played it over and over. Great song.
As for Rachmaninov, I actually have not played or listened much to his music.
Moonlight Sonata? Yes, I agree... 'tis overplayed...
Yes, Russian composers are the best! I especially enjoy Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, and Shostakovish.

the fantasie-impromptu is SO gorgeous. chopin actually didn't want it published and he left a note 4 his friends to BuRn it after his death, but **thankfully** they didn't. the reason he didn't want it published is probably b/c the beginning sounds like another piece by another composer....and he didn't want to be accused of plagarism! but honestly, who could ever accuse chopin of copying anyone? he was the EPITOME of originality. the 2nd mvmt of his first piano concerto is SO SWEET! My absolute fav piece by him is his 24th prelude. anyone reading this.....go out and listen to it right now! buy it, for goodness sake! learn it! memorize it! (i haven't learned it yet but i just have to) *ToRi

Mozart's requiem, the "Agnus Dei" breaks your heart. It is sooooooooo good. In my mind, that is the best of the best in music. Nothing compares with it on this earth!
