The American Revolution is so fun to read about. Have you read "The Rise to Rebellion" and "The Glorious Cause" by Jeff Shaara? They are cool books!
Oh, for my fellow Civil War buffs, there's "Gods and Generals", -Jeff Shaara (cool movie!), "The Killer Angels"-Michael Shaara, (the movie: Gettysburg The best historical movie ever!!!!!!!), and "The Last Full Measure"-Jeff Shaara (will be a movie next year I believe, and I can't wait!)

---I just got back from A trip at Gettysburg a week ago..---- All The Shaara books are the best historical books I've ever read, but Killer Angels was definately my favorite......Gods and Generals was a sad book (Good movie--but way too many repetitive explosion scenes) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D-----I do like studying about the Rev. War though, we spent a whole year studying it last year, and barely made a dent in all the info. about it.---

I just finished reading The Killer Angels. It's a GREAT book!!!
I'm planning on reading Gods and Generals soon.
I took a second trip to Gettysburg about a year ago, (actually we were passing through on our way to D.C. and we stopped briefly) Little Round Top is so cool.

I've been to Gettysburg, Bull Run, Appomatox, Ford's Theater, and several other Civil War places.
I've also been to Valley Forge (3 ansestors of mine were there with George Washington!) Williamsburg-cool place!, Independence Hall, and the rest of Historic Philodelphia.
I'm finnishing up the Glorious Cause right now, and will start on Gods and Generals!

Yes, Hope, but these books are "novels" about American history, and are way too good! I like learning about the people who went through all of it, not just dates, times, and circumstances, which I get out of the textbooks. You see, I have the brain of need to get to know them additude, and reading about them in story format lets me do that better than just reading about what they did.
That's what happened with George Rogers Clark. I read a story-style book about him once, and can't stop trying to find out more about that GREAT American hero. (finding out he was related to me helped!)

about the civil war....who do y'all think was right? most northeners i know says the southerners were completely terrible and all that, but guys, i just want to make one thing clear....THE CIVIL WAR WAS NOT ABOUT SLAVERY!!!! slavery was an issue, but not the hub of the wheel if ya know what i mean. i used to be a total yankee fan (i used to like the yankee bball team too, btw ), but then i moved to the south and started seeing both sides of the pic. i know this is a hot topic. but i think it's interesting.

Well, first of all... I think the yankees have won too much so they should loose.... but anyway I agree that there were many other issues, but I tend to still think that slavery was a major issue. Or let me put it this way, it may not have been a major issue, but it had major impacts. Slaves ran things so much, and were depended on. So the impacts of this policy was very important. As far as 'who was right' is much more complicated. For those who believe the war in whole was wrong is looking at the angle that people needed to just agree with each other and live happy lives (music plays... utopia!...) On the more realistic side of things we must realize that both sides had their beliefs’ that they fought for. So back to the root of 'who was right'? Personally I think it's possibly an answerable question. Both sides had their wrongs and rights... both sides believed their views were superior to the other... and both sides had a reason to figh for that which they believed in. America being a free country gives the people the right to have the freedom to have the right to think as you wish, however to act on what you believe in rash ways is when we cross the line. So... is it more a question of 'who started it?' or 'who didn’t stop it from starting?' Just my thoughts at midnight -benjy ;D
